Wednesday Wisdom – 1×05 ‘Shake Your Groove Thing’

“Remember when you were a kid, and your biggest worry was, like, if you’d get a bike for your birthday or if you’d get to eat cookies for breakfast? Being an adult – totally overrated. I mean, seriously, don’t be fooled by all the hot shoes and the great sex and the no parents anywhere telling you what to do. Adulthood is responsibility. Responsibility – it really does suck. Really, really sucks. Adults have to be places and do things and earn a living and pay the rent. And if you’re training to be a surgeon, holding a human heart in your hands – hello! Talk about responsibility! Kind of makes bikes and cookies look really, really good, doesn’t it?”

“Responsibility – it really does suck. Unfortunately, once you get past the age of braces and training bras, responsibility doesn’t go away. It can’t be avoided. Either someone makes us face it, or we suffer the consequences. And still, adulthood has its perks. I mean, the shoes, the sex, the no parents anywhere telling you what to do…that’s pretty damn good.”

MerDer Reunion!

Sooo…unless you live under a rock, you probably know by now that Grey’s Anatomy’s Meredith and Derek (aka Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey) reunited. Check out the photos…

I was inspired a little and wrote out how this post and the episode had me feeling…

I can’t even begin to describe the way my heart aches with happiness looking at these photos and seeing these two on screen together again.

As a diehard MerDer fan since 2005, Derek’s death was incredibly painful for me. It was Meredith and Derek who kept me coming back to Grey’s year after year. They gave me hope. I saw myself in Meredith, and her relationship with Derek and the way he loved her so unconditionally gave me hope. They were both human, they had flaws, they screwed up, but at the end of the day they chose each other and fought for their relationship. I always believed Grey’s would end with those two. I stayed with the show for Meredith and Ellen of course, but I always missed that part of it.

I think about the chemistry, that magic that Ellen and Patrick have together…that has endured and shines through in these photos and on screen even five years later. It’s truly incredible. I just…as an OG fan I feel so validated — like all the hope and love I have for these two characters wasn’t in vain.

So much of this year has not been easy in so many ways but Ellen and Patrick have always been such a constant and bright light in my life as well as the lives of others. The fact that they wanted to do this for us, that they know how much we love them and these characters and their relationship still to this day was such an incredible gift to the fans and I love the message that they’re using this opportunity to put out there — the reminder of healing, reconnection, humility, forgiveness, and love for each other and ourselves. You’ve given me hope and a feeling of lightness at such a dark time in so many of our lives. I’m just genuinely so grateful. ♥️

“It’s all about lines – the finish line at the end of residency, waiting in line for a chance at the operating table, and then there’s the most important line – the line separating you from the people you work with. It doesn’t help to get too familiar, to make friends. You need boundaries between you and the rest of the world. It’s all about lines. Drawing lines in the sand, and praying like hell no one crosses them.”

“At some point, you have to make a decision. Boundaries don’t keep other people out. They fence you in. Life is messy. That’s how we’re made. So you can waste your life drawing lines…or you can live your life crossing them. But there are some lines…that are way too dangerous to cross. Here’s what I know. If you’re willing to take the chance…the view from the other side…is spectacular.”
